My Weight Loss Journey: Post One.

Please know that everything I say in this post is not an over exaggeration, and that my pain comes from the bottom of my heart. All of this is truth. Sorry for some of the profane language. Please, no rude or negative comments.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And so it begins.
So.. Here is a thing that most of you wont know about me. For those who aren't family won't know anyways.
I've been battling with my weight since I was 17 years old. I am now 21.. Not a long time, I know. But with in that time period I have gained.. hold on one second while I go check the scale. Be right back!....
....
Ok, I've gained 100 lbs! I've been stuck between 230-245 for about a year now. Flip flopping with in that range. I am currently 230.6! What THE heck happened?! A couple years ago, I was 100 lbs lighter. What have I done with myself?!
Why do I want to this? There are plenty of reasons.
  1. I want to be healthier: That's a must! DUH! Every since I gained weight my immune system went to crap!
  2. Back in SHAPE!: My husband is fit, and loves doing things like hikes, and riding bikes on a bike trail. But I can NOT do those things with out feeling like I am going to DIE! We go on a certain hike once a year, and it never gets any easier for me. We won't even make it to the half way mark before I am even out of breathe! How ridiculous is that?! And by the time I we do make it to the car after this hike, I am AMAZED that I made it, but my legs are shaking and fighting to keep my standing up!
  3. To feel and look better: My self esteem is SHIT! I don't feel pretty enough to even have a husband! And whenever we go out to dinner, or a movie, just to have some us time.. I feel as though people are STARING at us trying to figure out why exactly we are together. How sad is all this? A women shouldn't have to feel this way! And have you ever seen some of the military wives walking around your neighborhood? I live in an area with a military base, so I see these women all the time, and most of them are skinny and beautiful! Also, I HATE, HATE, HATE taking pictures! If I'm not the one taking them, then I don't want them taken. I went to a family Halloween party, and I seen the pictures. I look like a big BLOB! UGH! And at that party, I wanted to get up and dance like the rest of the family members, but was way to ashamed because of the way I look. Now, I did do a couple of dances, but they were line dances. Like the Chicken Dance, the Hokey Pokey (yes we did the Hokey Pokey lol!) and also the Macarena.  Those songs didn't have much movement, and they also didn't play those songs until it got dark outside.
I want to be able to feel good about myself. Not ashamed. Let me give you just an idea of what I'm talking about here. Let me show a picture of when I was 130 and a current picture of me. It's quite ridiculous.
130 me
230.6 me (dang this is going to slap in the face..) (sorry so small!)
This picture is the MOST current one taken on 10/20/2012
UGH!! I really don't know what to say anymore. I just need to lose weight.
What are my goals you ask? Well I really only have a few..
  1. Lose 100 lbs.
  2. Be able to do things with my husband with out feeling like i'm going to die!
Told you I only have a few.
Now how am I going to reach these goals?
  • EXERCISE! That is something new to me. I hate it. I feel stupid doing it. But maybe I can make it fun, and not feel that way.
  • Not eating treats. Maybe having one every once in awhile, but that's it.
  • Kick the sodas out the door! Only healthy drinks!
  • DRINK MORE WATER! I never do this. I rarely EVER do this!
  • Go to bed at a good time.. not really putting my best foot forward on this.. it's almost 1 am as I type this!
  • Eat breakfast. I've heard lots of benefits from eating breakfast, but do I do it... NOPE.
  • Bring lunch to work. My job basically requires me to sit on my butt all day.. Eating Chinese and Chic-fil-a for lunch during the week is so stupid on my part.
  • Make healthier meals, and portion control.
Food is my weakness. I have a emotion tie to it. I eat when ever I'm happy, sad, bored. There was only one time where I was so depressed that I couldn't eat.. But that's a different story!
As of today.. what is now October 23, 2012, I am going to start losing weight. There need to be a change, and I am the only one who can change it. Please follow me on the journey! I will be doing a weekly weigh in, and I'll also be documenting everything that I put into my mouth. Feel free to give me any tips or advise! I hope I can inspire all of those who would like to start this journey as well!
A weekend at Santee
My husband and I went to Santee Lake last weekend! We were accompanied by some friends. Our friends James, Troy and also our cousin William. I was the only girl! lol!
But I had so much fun! We went on a hike and a bunch of fishing. There was also A LOT of football playing.
Daren and Troy
 Not only in the road or in the field, but also on the xbox. Of course I didn't take pictures of that because thats pretty boring. HA! It's a good thing the guys don't care about the camera being out. Daren minds from time to time, but during football he just doesn't care. He's more focused on the game. Daren and Troy absolutely love football!
James and William
But the guys had a lot of fun! I'm glad they did! We all deserved a little bit of fun and relaxation. We've all been working real hard.
Troy and William
We also went on a nice nature walk. It wasn't to long but it was still nice. I was expecting to see more wild life in the woods. But I guess they were all hiding. Speaking of wildlife there were A LOT of squirrels! I haven't seen squirrels in a while since we don't have very many trees around our house. We also seen snails and deer. Actually tomorrow Daren and I are going to the wildlife refuge. I will be taking pictures there also. Troy is also coming, he will be bringing his girlfriend.
I had SO much fun the past weekend, and I really hope we are able to do something like this again soon!
I will more than likely be posting about tomorrow at the refuge with pictures! I hope all of you had a good week, and having an awesome weekend!
XOXO,
Sammie
Say hi to the new family member!
Saturday night after work my husband and our friend Troy came to pick me up. The first thing my husband says to me is, "Lets go to Petco!" Of course I said yes at first because I LOVE Petco! But then he said, "I want a bird." And then I said "noooooooo". I don't like birds! lol!
But since he let me have Pinky, I decided why not?
We walked over to the bird section and seen the the parakeets and we decided we would get one of those since the rest of the birds were expensive. I seen one that I liked instantly. It was spotted black on the top, and  his belly was purple. I told Daren I thought it was pretty, but it was his choice. Than I seen a second one, who had a gray top, and a pale blue belly.
We decided to get the second one I seen. Daren really liked her! When we brought her home it literally took all three of to put her cage together! Quite sad I know. lol. We debated back and forth on names, and even though it's my husbands pet I did give him my opinion on the names. The first one he thought of was Azul. (Spanish word for blue.) Him and Troy then thought of Zelda. I kind of liked Zelda more than Azul to be honest. After looking at her, looking at names, and debating on the name Gracie (which I liked) we decided to agree on the name Sky.
Now, I really don't care for birds, but I do like Sky.
Just a quick update. More to come soon!
Update: Autumn, are you here yet?
Hey Everyone!
Wanted to do an update since I haven't updated in a long time! Nothing eventful is happening. Same old, same old. Daren has gotten his surgery, and  man has that been giving him some problems. Just last week he went to his doctor who did the surgery because he had a very high fever, also his lower back and surgery wound was hurting. It hurt so much that it hurt for him to do anything. He hated to sit, and he didn't like laying on his back. The doctor said there was nothing wrong with him, and gave him pain meds and sent him on his way. Well, a couple days later (last Saturday to be EXACT) Daren's grandmother and I brought him to the emergency room around 10:30-11:00pm because it was a couple of days after he seen the last doctor and he still had a high fever.
After spending maybe an hour or two waiting for the ER doctor to see him the conclusion was, the surgery wound was indeed infected! Then after that, the doctor got him strapped up to an IV to put antibiotics into his system, and also some pain medication to keep his lower back region from hurting so much. We left the hospital around 3:30am. Man, oh man. I almost fell asleep in the chair I was sitting in at the hospital!
But other than that.. things are perfect. Daren is doing well, and he has a check up this following week.
But in other.... news?
I'm so ready for autumn to come. This hot summer heat is KILLING me! I hate summer! Now autumn and winter are my favorite seasons! I can't wait to lay on my couch with my windows wide open, letting the cool breeze flow through my house. While the smell of a pumpkin spice candle fills the entire home and the wind chimes make a delightful sound in the background. If only it could be like that all year round. Sigh.... I cant wait any longer!
Autumn, please come faster!!!
Oh My Goodness Ya'll!!
So I can't believe it's been since April since I last typed up a blog! The time flew right by, I am so sorry! There is SO much to catch you all up on!
SOOO I have a job. I started it April 5th, and it takes up all of my time. I'm full time customer service. 8 hours a day, talking on a phone. I can't tell you enough how much I miss training!! I'm on the "floor" now. What that means is that I'm taking phone calls all by myself. It was SO much easier when I had a person with experience sitting next to me telling me what I needed to say and what to do. I'm getting better at my job, pretty quickly too. My call handle percentage goal is supposed to be 276%. It was in the 330%-360% range. It's now at 299%! And my customer surveys are GREAT. Yes.. I believe my ego IS showing. lol I also figured out that the associates ranking is 1-400. I am #134! WHAAATTT! lol!
But the bad side about this job is that I absolutely despise it! I'm not one to stay on the phones. I'm definitely not one to sit on the phone AND listen to people complain for 8 hours straight. I don't want to be at this job, but I make good money, and if I'm doing as well as I am now or better, I may get promoted soon and get off of the telephones which would be AMAZING!! I would love that! lol!
But more news.. Exciting news!
MY HUSBAND IS HOME!!! YAY!!
He came home on the 5th of June. If you didn't read my last blog, let me catch you up in the simplest way possible.. He wasn't supposed to come home until July because he had to go through surgery. But luckily, they let him come home on the month he was originally supposed to come home. He surprised me also! I took the day off of work to get the house all nice and cleaned and organized, because he told me he wasn't going to come home until 8pm.
LIAR!
He showed up around the house at 1:30 in the afternoon! His mom showed up at my doorstep when I was cleaning the dishes. She told me that his plane landed early and we had to hurry up and pick him up. I was all frustrated because my house was NO where near the way I wanted it to look. So I told her I'd be outside soon and to let me get dressed. Well while I walked to the back of the house to turn on the lights, he came through the front door. Not only did my house not look nice, I looked like A MESS! lol!
He's been home for awhile now, and I'm so happy to have him home!
Well, that's really all for now ya'll. Not much more to update on. But I do promise to write more blogs soon, and more often. I'm shocked that I havent wrote one in forever!
Probably having to wait another month
So I found out that my husband might have to stay in Florida for a little longer.
What happened
When Daren was born he was born with a small cyst above his tail bone. 22 years later my husband goes to BMT (Basic Military Training), and all the exercising irritated the cyst, and after my husband graduated BMT and went to technical school it decided to rupture. I don't know what made it finally rupture. I would think it would have ruptured while he was at BMT, but luckily, it waited lol! But he does have to get surgery done.
Coming home soon?
I'm not sure what the plan is right now. What I do know is that during the surgery we have to see how big, and how deep the cyst was to figure out whether he'll have to stay there another month. He'll have to stay there until he is completely recovered from the surgery. He was supposed to come home the 5th of June. Now he probably won't come home until July. We'll have to see what happens.
The advice I can give for times like these
Try not to stay too bummed. I know it sucks. All those days that you finally counted down, just came back. You'll probably want to cry, and sit with some Ben and Jerry's. I've been told by other military wives, that you have to learn to go with the flow. Your husband/fiance/boyfriend/girlfriend/wife is trying their BEST to get home to you and the rest of the family. Try not to think about the extra time apart. It's hard. I've noticed that I've been taking it a little easier then some other new military wives have. The only time I cry is when I leave him. When we dropped him off at the airport when he left for BMT, and I cried for a couple days after that. When we were leaving Texas after his graduation weekend was over I cried a couple hours after hugging him goodbye. And after he left my hotel room when I went to see him in Florida, I cried that night and the next day on the way back home. I also cried during Christmas and my birthday. But that's about it.
I will update when I find out more!
XOXO
Sam :)
The Kitties
Meet Bashful
(Excuse the mess in the picture, its my little brother's room in the background lol)
Bashful will be 8 years old very soon! My family got her, her brother and sister, a couple months after we moved to South Carolina. She was very timid and shy unlike her brother and sister (hence the name Bashful). She would also run and hide every time people would come visit. But after years past, she wasn't as shy as when we brought her home. She would come into the living room and rub all over people. She is so sweet, and loves attention. Now that she's getting older she likes to sit where ever some one has just gotten up from sitting, or she will lay right on top of you so she can get warm. She also really likes to sunbath. And she really really likes sleeping. Its really all she does. There are a few times when she'll find something to play with and chase it through the house. She still has a little kitten in her.
Ninja!
So obviously you can see why we named him Ninja. lol. When we got him he was originally named Leonidas. (The guy in 300 lol) But we changed it. Everyone would tell me and my husband to change his name to midnight, or other common names for black cats. Which I didn't want. I thought it was unoriginal. But after a while, his mannerism didn't fit the name we gave him. He was so sneaky and fast. And QUIET! He would come out of no where, then disappear. He loved playing with the dogs!  But he would do it his way. He would wait until Sadie would turn around and face us, and he would come from underneath the couch and attack her tail or leg and then run underneath the couch. It was so cute! I miss him being a kitten! Here is a picture of him when we got him in 2010.
Doesn't that picture just melt your heart and make you say, "AWWWWW!" lol! When he was a kitten he really likes to watch tv, or play with the arrow on the computer screen. And if he wasn't doing those things, or practicing his ninjutsu on the dogs, he was sleeping. And his two favorite places to sleep was on my printer, or in my shirt! lol He would lay right on my chest and fall asleep. He's another momma's boy. Him and Sadie have a close relationship. When he was a kitten, Sadie acted as though Ninja was her baby! So cute! Ugh, I miss him being a kitten!
Well, those are my kitties.
Spring Cleaning Haul!
Yay! It's the most wonderful time of the year! Oh wait, that's Christmas..
It's that time of the year for spring cleaning. For me, not the most wonderful time of the year. But once I'm done I know I'll feel better about how extra clean and organized my house is! I would like to share some of the things that I've bought to give my house a good cleaning.
1. Air Cleaning Filter
Not only should you get one of these during this time of the year, you need to change them every 2-3 months. (I've been kind of neglecting that lol) This will help reduce all the allergens in the air. I had to get the one that helps with pet dander, I have 6 animals!
2. Air Filter Freshener
It may not go with any of the other scented things that I bought, but I'm fine with that. This goes on your air filter, and helps your house smell gooooood! Especially if you have animals that don't like to smell good. Like my dogs.
3. Swiffer Wet Jet
This was a much needed splurge! I have a cotton mop that is so aggravating! And in my opinion, doesn't really work. Doesn't clean the way I want to clean my floors. So I got the wet jet and I'm so excited to use it!!
4. Pet Fresh Carpet Odor Eliminator
Something you will definitely need if you have indoor animals like I do! I would recommend vacuuming your carpets first, then sprinkling this on the floor. Also, don't just sprinkle it on the floor. Use your broom to really get the powder down into your carpet. And then just let it sit in your carpet for 15-20 minutes, and then vacuum the room a couple times to make sure that you've gotten all the powder! Then bend down and sniff your fresh smelling carpet ;)
Even if you don't have animals I would recommend getting a carpet odor eliminator.
5. Vacuum Filter
Not only does your air filter need a new filter, your vacuum does too! I can't really give you a recommendation on how often you should change this filter. It varies from vacuum to vacuum. But this Febreze vacuum filter makes the air that comes out of your vacuum smell good!
6. Air fresheners!
After all the mopping, dusting, washing, and vacuuming that you'll do, go ahead and make your house smell extra good with your favorite scents!! This air freshener by Febreze is my ABSOLUTE favorite smell for spring and summer time! Hands down, no competition!
Time to start cleaning ya'll. Woo hoo.. :/
;)
Why I started a blog
Not only did I start this blog to share my life with family, and friends. I also started it for a different reason.
When my husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) told me he wanted to join the military I was shocked. I never thought in my life that he would want to. I remember years ago when I mentioned something about joining the military I remember him saying that he would probably never join the military. So when he said he was thinking about joining you could imagined how shocked I was, and kind of confused.
After that, I tried looking up books and blogs to try to prepare me for what we would have to face together. And I found a couple books that could help, but were a little expensive for me to buy at the time. And the blogs I was reading weren't really helping me.
I know I'm not the only girl out there that felt confused and scared, and I'm sure there are others who are now getting told by their boyfriends, fiances, or husbands that they want to join the military and are shocked an confused just like I was almost two years ago.
And I want to help.
Maybe I can help some of you ladies or even some of you guys out there. I know it would have helped me when I was first doing my research.
I'm still new at military life. I still have SO much more to experience. My husband is still in tech school, and that is why I wanted to start this now. While all these experiences are still new and fresh in my mind. I think it's the best way to do it. Why not?
I hope I can help out as much as I can!
XOXO
Sam :)
Taking on your other half's chores!
Even though it doesn't sound fun, you HAVE to do it. And you can do it!
When my husband was home, I took care of the house while he took care of the yard work, and paying the bills and making sure they were paid on time.
In December, I was so scared about paying the bills. I never had to do them in my life. A couple weeks before he left I would tell him how worried I was that I would forget to pay a bill. We had to pay Kay's Jewelers, Walmart (we had a Walmart credit card lol), rent, electricity, cell phone bill, car insurance, and there a few others. Thankfully some of them were directly taken out from our bank account! lol. He reassured me that I would be fine, and I wouldn't forget. And if I did I'd be in trouble. lol. Near the end of January, I paid off Walmart, and his dental bill completely off, so now I don't have to pay them anymore thank goodness! So we had about $150 extra that we have in our bank account. Then in February I paid off Kay's completely so needless to say we now have over $200 extra! Now I can spend it on what ever I want! lol! Just kidding! Maybe... ;)
Now the yard work I never liked! I hate the heat of South Carolina. And I get sunburns way to easy. Put it this way, SPF 100 is my best friend! But no matter how much you hate the chore that your husband agreed to do, when he's gone, it is now your chore! So, because I have the best luck in the world, the day I went to go start the lawn mowers (we own two) the newest one would not start. Even after charging the battery, putting gas and oil in it. And the other lawn mower had a flat tire that would not blow up. So we had to take the tire to a man in my neighborhood who works on lawn mowers. He put a tube in it and thankfully the next morning he came and got the other lawn mower and said he would work on it. And the other thing that I was happy about, the day that I did the lawn, a cold front came in! So instead of it being the usual 85-90 degrees that it has been for the past couple weeks, it was only 65 degrees!  After a couple hours my yard was done! And looked great! I think I did better than my husband if I do say so myself. Tee hee!
Listen ladies, it wont be fun having to do everything. I know it's not fun. But the chores have to get done. But by the end of the day when everything is done, you'll feel so accomplished and so proud of yourself! I promise!
XOXO,
Sam :)
Meet the Doggies
Introducing Jasmine!
This is Jasmine. Mostly known as Jazzy. She's 5 years old now, and is a Jack Russell mix. I've had her since I was a sophomore in high school. She was originally my friend Whitney's dog, but her family was getting rid of their animals and my mom loved Jasmine. If I had to describe her in five words, those five words would be:
  1. Loving
  2. Feisty
  3. Spoiled
  4. Princess
  5. Loud
She likes to give and receive loving. And she LOVES to get babied when she's hurt. For example, she hurt her leg a couple weeks ago and could barely walk. She needed help going up and down the stairs, and getting on the couch. She also wants to lay down on a homemade bed made of blankets and pillows, and wants to cover up with a blanket. lol! She will give you the puppy eyes until you do cover her. She can be a drama queen sometimes too.
She also understands who is allowed around the house and who is not. She does NOT like strangers, and barks to let you know if someone is in the yard, or walking the road. lol. I'm surprised my neighbors haven't complained about her barking! ;)
Meet Sadie Pup!!
This is Sadie! Also known as Sadie Pup, which she is mostly called. It's been a while since we've called her just Sadie. She is THE MASTER of the puppy dog eyes. She is two years old now, and is a lab mix. My husband gave me her as a Christmas present on December 21, 2009. She is the most friendly dog I've ever had, and met. She loves all animals, and she really likes making friends. She's very motherly to all baby animals. When we got our cat Ninja, she cared for him as if he were hers. She even let him suck on her nipples when he was a kitten. She's even protective of my hamster, and wont let the other animals near him. I'm very sad that she was fixed when we got her, because I think she would have made a great mommy. And she would have beautiful puppies because I don't know if you noticed, but she's pretty beautiful herself. lol. Many people who've seen Sadie have asked whether she was fixed or not. When we tell them she's fixed they get disappointed and say, "that's such a shame. She's a beautiful dog." And don't get me wrong, she maybe very friendly, but she is also protective of her family. If I had to describe her in five words they would be:
  1. Friendly
  2. Motherly
  3. Loving
  4. Happy
  5. Smart
She also really loves her daddy. She was supposed to be my Christmas present, but she took to Daren immediately. And I know she's misses him a lot since he left for BMT (Basic Military Training) and Technical school. She has taken to me since he left, but I'm sure when he comes back she'll forget about me. lol! And I know that out of everyone (dogs, cats, family and me) she will be the one who is the most happiest to see him!
Max's Story
This is Max and we think he is a pitbull mix. We got Max before my husband left for BMT. We don't know exactly how Max was treated before we rescued him, but we know he wasn't treated nicely. He showed up at Daren's grandmother's house, and they noticed that his ribs were slightly showing, and his back was covered in tar. (As seen in the picture above.) When Daren brought him home, he was very timid and he whined a lot. When we would walk toward him he would sink to the ground, and his eyes would flinch as if he were scared we would hit him. I've found out over the months that we've had him that he is afraid of brooms, hammers, and plastic grocery bags. I don't even have to shake the plastic bag open to get that loud noise it makes to scare him. He runs away when he hears the crinkling sound. I'm teaching him that these things aren't bad, and he is slowly getting used to them. He loved Sadie and Jasmine right away because they are females. We almost name him Stiffler, if you get the joke. lol. If I had to describe him in five words those five would be:
  1. Momma's
  2. Boy
  3. Forever
  4. And
  5. Ever!
Just kidding! The real five words are:
  1. Protective
  2. Smart
  3. Stubborn
  4. Playful
  5. Jealous
He's definitely a mommy's boy though. He LOVES me from Pluto and back a million times. I seem to be the only one who matters to him in the world. If he isn't outside in our backyard playing with the other dogs, then he is next to me. He never leaves my side unless he is outside. I can't walk out of the room with out him following me. He even gave me a present about a week ago. It was a dead bird. He killed a birdy just for me. lol. He doesn't like the other animals to get my attention. He wants all of my attention, and he thinks the others shouldn't get any. Sometimes it can get annoying. He's extremely protective. He doesn't like other male dogs, and DOES NOT, absolutely DOES NOT like strangers! We weren't going to keep him at first. Surprisingly, I didn't want another dog. My husband said it was up to me whether I wanted to keep him or not because in a couple weeks he was going to leave for BMT. But I was afraid whose hands he was going to end up in. I was afraid he would end up getting abused again, and possibly end up fighting other dogs. I didn't want to even think about him going through that.
So, those are my dogs! Cute huh?! I know!
What five words would you use to describe your animal(s)?
More to come.
XOXO
Sam :)
